Earlier this year, the Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) granted the Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation (GPA EDC) $30,000 for active business development and investment attraction in Peterborough’s Aviation and Aerospace sector.
The GPA boasts a dynamic and robust aviation and aerospace industry. It is anchored by world class organizations like Flying Colours Corp and Safran Electronics Canada plus a host of other small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that are directly or indirectly linked to the sector. The Peterborough Airport is a vital economic generator and with the recent significant upgrades, is already attracting new tenants like Seneca College.
Adding the presence of progressive educational institutions like Trent University and Fleming College, the GPA has all the key ingredients to make our businesses more efficient, productive and successful.
The CFDC grant is an essential contribution that will permit the GPA EDC to place an additional level of effort on investment attraction and job creation in this highly specialized sector. To ensure the funds are leveraged effectively additional resources have been secured in the form of two new members to the staff.
Mounira Benallou has come to us from France with Nuclear and Aerospace experience, and an engineering and project management background. As our new Supply Chain Manager, Mounira will be working to help improve our market readiness. Mounira’s work will posture the GPA EDC and our existing businesses to effectively market themselves. Creating a capabilities matrix for the area will assist immensely in the attraction of new businesses in the areas of Aviation and Aerospace to Peterborough.
Bill Werny has joined us from Alberta and with his extensive background in the aviation/aerospace industry will focus on investment attraction with ultimate job creation in Peterborough’s Aviation and Aerospace sector. Bill will be working with the GPA EDC’s team to bring aviation and aerospace related investment opportunities through the growth and expansion of existing firms and the attraction of new businesses to the Peterborough airport and local area.
